Mythology has it that the God Zeus was brought up by nymphs, who protected him from his father Kronos. Consumed by the fear of being overthrown by his son, Kronos wanted to devour Zeus.

Amalthea, one of the nymphs, used to suckle a goat whose teats were always full of milk and whose horns produced nectar and ambrosia. Zeus, on attaining adulthood, honoured the goat by placing it in the sky as the constellation Capricorn. He took the horns (called Cornucopia or the Horn of Plenty) which continued to produce nectar and ambrosia and gifted them to Amalthea.

Historically, the Cornucopia is believed to bring good luck to all those who possess it.
